Christopher J. Augustine
Chief Communications Officer

Chris Augustine serves as Chief Communications Officer for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC).  In this role, he is responsible for the agency’s communications and public affairs strategies including planning, messaging, engagement, marketing, public outreach, media relations, and issues management.

A retired major in the U.S, Army, Augustine brings more than 25 years of communications and marketing experience to DHEC and plays a critical role in the leadership of the communications and public affairs team. Prior to joining DHEC, Augustine served as director, corporate communications for WestRock Company, and before that he led global communications and public affairs for General Electric’s lighting division. His last role in the military was an assignment at the U.S. Special Operations Command - Directorate of Public Affairs where he was director, external communications & crisis management planning from 2009-2012.

A native of Philadelphia, Penn., Chris holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Penn.
