COLUMBIA, S.C. - The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) has closed some shellfish harvesting
beds in Beaufort County due to a sewer line break, the agency announced today.
"This closure includes all shellfish harvesting and primary contact of water in Battery Creek due to an ongoing sewer line breach," said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC's Shellfish Sanitation Section. "The closure extends from the headwaters to the Battery Creek Bridge, near the entrance to Parris Island Marine Training Center. The closure size could be modified once we get further information."
