Action for a Cleaner Tomorrow: Additional Curriculum Resources for Teachers

The following resources provide additional information for teachers trained on "Action for a Cleaner Tomorrow" ("Action"). These materials have been developed by the DHEC Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling (Office) to supplement the "Action" curriculum.

Take Action SC Partnership

The goal of the Take Action SC Environmental Education Partnership is to provide a program that informs, inspires and empowers students and teachers to protect and preserve the environment.

To achieve this goal the program offers lessons, support material, teacher workshops and classroom presentations to promote composting, recycling, waste reduction, litter prevention and sustainability. The partnership is comprised of Coastal Carolina University, Palmetto Pride, Keep South Carolina Beautiful and the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). These stakeholders are committed share knowledge, coordinate resources and work together to help others take action.

Schedule a Presentation

In addition to lessons you can teach in the classroom, the Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling offers free, interactive recycling lessons for fifth-grade, seventh-grade and high school students. To schedule a presentation, call 1-800-768-7348.

Learn What's Recyclable in Your Community

For more information on what your school to recycle contact your local recycling coordinator. Visit "Where to Recycle Locally" and click on your county to find contact information for your recycling coordinator and the county recycling program.

Fund Your Recycling Program

You can use the following grants to fund you school's recycling and waste reduction projects from a fee of two cents per gallon.
