Recycling Grants for Colleges and Universities

The Collegiate Recycling Grant is a competitive grant program that allocates grant funds to South Carolina public and private colleges/universities for projects that promote sustainability through recycling, reuse, composting and waste reduction. Funding for this program is made possible through the South Carolina Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling (Office). These are classified as state fee funds. For the 2017-2018 grant cycle, the Office is offering Collegiate Recycling Grants in three optional program categories, along with funding for professional development. Optional requests may be made for Food Recovery, Twin-the-Bin, or Glass Recycling projects.

The Office will consider grant proposals of up to $12,500 per college/university. Funding will be limited to 10,000 for optional projects, and $2,500 for professional development. Professional development includes travel expenses to conferences for items such as hotel costs, meals, registration and mileage/airfare, etc.

Awards must be approved by the State Solid Waste Advisory Council (SWAC) and DHEC. Grant offers will be made in writing to the applicants, and will be effective for a period of one-year.
