Buying Recycled Products

Every purchasing decision has an impact on the environment. Buying recycled content products "closes the recycling loop" and makes recycling work.

"The Recycled Products Guide" (RPG) lists more than 5,000 certified manufacturers and distributors of recycled-content products and more than 1,000 recycled-content product classifications. The product listings conform to the RPG Certification Criteria www.recyclingmarkets.net .

The Comprehensive Procurement Guideline (CPG) program is part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) continuing effort to promote the use of materials recovered from solid waste. While directed primarily at executive branch agencies, CPG information is helpful to anyone interested in purchasing recycled-content products.

Visit https://www.epa.gov/smm/comprehensive-procurement-guideline-cpg-program for more information.

Remember: When comparing prices of recycled-content and virgin products, there is a 7.5 percent price preference in South Carolina as designated by the S.C. Solid Waste Policy and Management Act of 1991 (Act) . See Section 44-96-140 (E) (3).
