COVID-19 Main Dashboard Overview & Instructions

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has developed an interactive COVID-19 Dashboard. The dashboard includes 5 interactive data pages that allow you to view data that’s specific to each county. 


 

Home

Provides a broad overview of COVID-19 in South Carolina and in each of the 46 counties. From the Home page you can navigate to any of the other data pages by selecting the buttons at the top of the dashboard.

Testing

Displays the total number of COVID-19 tests and type of COVID-19 tests (molecular or serology) performed along with the percent of those tests that had  a positive result in South Carolina and in each of the 46 counties. View county-level details by clicking on a county of interest. View testing details for a certain time period by changing the start and end dates displayed on the date slider at the top center. The number of tests for each county is based on the county of residence of the individuals tested.

Cases

Displays the number of confirmed and probable cases in South Carolina and in each of the 46 counties and by ZIP code. View county-level details by selecting a county of interest from the dropdown menu at the top of the page. Cases are broken-down by reported race, ethnicity, sex and age in order to provide a more complete picture of the impact of COVID-19. In line with the reporting practices for any disease activity, the data is not broken down by race, ethnicity, sex and age if there are fewer than 5 cases as a measure to protect the privacy of individual cases; this is a standard data reporting practice not specific to COVID-19. View case counts for a certain time period by changing the start and end dates displayed on the date slider at the top center. Cases are reported based on the county of residence of the individual.

Hospitalization

Displays the number of individuals currently hospitalized due to complications of COVID-19 in South Carolina and in each of the 46 counties. View county-level details by clicking on a county of interest. Individuals hospitalized are broken down by race, ethnicity, sex and age in order to provide a more complete picture of the impact of COVID-19. In line with the reporting practices for any disease activity, the data is not broken down by race, ethnicity, sex and age if there are fewer than 5 cases as a measure to protect the privacy of individual cases; this is a standard data reporting practice not specific to COVID-19.

Deaths

Displays the number of deaths in South Carolina and in each of the 46 counties. Cases are broken-down by race, ethnicity, sex and age in order to provide a more complete picture of the impact of COVID-19. In line with the reporting practices for any

disease activity, the data is not broken down by race, ethnicity, sex and age if there are fewer than 5 cases as a measure to protect the privacy of individual cases; this is a standard data reporting practice not specific to COVID-19.Hospitalization is based on the patient’s reported county of residence.

On Reporting Race & Ethnicity

Upon taking a COVID-19 test, individuals are asked to provide their race and ethnicity. Reported race categories include:

  • Asian, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander
  • Black
  • White
  • Other
  • Unknown
  • Under Investigation

Individuals who identify as mixed race or any race category not provided above are reported as “Other.” Individuals who do not know or do not wish to provide their race are reported as “Unknown.” As data are provisional and subject to change as we receive information that is more complete, individuals who have not yet provided their race are reported as “Under Investigation.”

Reported ethnicity categories include:

  • Hispanic or Latino
  • Not Hispanic or Latino
  • Unknown
  • Under Investigation

Individuals who do not know or do not wish to provide their ethnicity are reported as “Unknown.” As data are provisional and subject to change as we receive information that is more complete, individuals who have not yet provided their ethnicity are reported as “Under Investigation.”

We hope that this dashboard is helpful in answering your questions regarding COVID-19 in your community. We will continue to build out the analysis and features available within this dashboard in support of South Carolina’s response to COVID-19.

Instructions for Navigating the Dashboard

Navigating to Data Pages

In the header of the Home Page there are 5 boxes: Testing, Cases, Hospitalizations and Deaths. Click on the number in the box to navigate to the page of interest.

Return to Home

In the upper left corner of each of the Data Pages you will find a Home button. Hover over the button with your curser and click to return to the Home Page.

Using the Maps

To view detailed county-level data, hover over the desired county on the state map. A black outline will highlight the county borders.  Click once. Using this feature will make the data on the page specific to the selected county. This feature is available on all data pages. Note: the title of each graph will change from All to County Name to let you know which information you are currently viewing.

Date Slider

To view data for a specific time period, use the date slider to select the start and end dates. Slide the timeline or click on the date and use the calendar pop-up. This feature is only available on the Testing and Cases dashboards.
