DHEC announces new phone number for appointments and healthcare resources in the Midlands Region

COLUMBIA, S.C. - On Jan. 22, The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) will begin rolling out a new phone number residents can call to make appointments at local health departments and to reach the agency's Care Line, which provides healthcare referrals.

The new number is 1-855-4-SCDHEC (1-855-472-3432).

To ensure a smooth transition, this number will be phased in by region. It will go into effect in the Midlands Feb. 5. The Midlands region includes Aiken, Barnwell, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry, Richland, Saluda and York counties.

Residents can use this number to make appointments for WIC services, immunizations, family planning, STD/HIV testing and other health services provided at any county health department.

The number will also be used for the Care Line, which provides statewide resource information for women and their families including WIC, Medicaid and Medicaid Physicians, immunizations, transportation, services for children with special health care needs, and other public health and community services.

"While we are moving to a new phone number, this service has long provided a convenient way for people to access the many services DHEC offers. We expect the change to be seamless," said Virginia Painter, DHEC Central Appointing Care Line Coordinator.
