Latest Update
This morning there was one main chimney of smoke coming from the pile. At 10:00 AM the chimney was opened to fight the fire, causing a good bit of smoking as well as visible flames for a couple of minutes. This afternoon there has been minimal smoke and water has been continuously put in the opening where the fire was this morning.
All DHEC sensors are still reading in the “Good” range for the 24-hour average comparison to the Air Quality Index (AQI).

Please note: The number of trucks leaving the site each day varies depending on the weather and firefighting activities. Also, the tons per truck are estimated on days when landfill receipts are not available at the time of this update.
Smoke forecast for Friday October 25, 2019:
Air quality monitoring data in the local area of the fire has shown particulate concentrations in the "Good" range through the course of the day Thursday. If fire flare-ups do occur, a wind direction from the northeast through Friday morning will likely move smoke plumes towards the southwest (in the direction of Sun City). Winds will gradually shift more from the east by Friday afternoon. Any noticeable smoke during the overnight and early morning period will likely dissipate by the late morning hours. However, given the latest trends in fire activity and continued fire suppression efforts, smoke is not expected to be a problem beyond locations closest to the Able Contracting facility along Schinger Avenue.
