Latest Update

Today was overcast, breezy and a warm 80 degrees. A small amount of steam was apparent all day in the northeast corner. Smoke was significant on the northern edge but easily suppressed with water. Removal activities ceased at 3:00 pm due to inclement weather.

All DHEC sensors are still reading in the “Good” range for the 24-hour average comparison to the Air Quality Index (AQI).

Please refer to the interactive DHEC map to access real time air quality information from all three DHEC sensors.

Total Trucks through 12/14 10,680
Total Tons through 12/14 99,773
Total Trucks through 12/16 153
Total Tons through 12/16 1,667
Trucks as of 3:00 PM 12/17 100
Tons as of 3:00 PM 12/17 1,182

Please note: The number of trucks leaving the site each day varies depending on the weather and firefighting activities. Also, the tons per truck are estimated on days when landfill receipts are not available at the time of this update.

We’ve used a combination of both triaxle dump trucks and dump trailers. Each dump trailer has the capacity of about three times that of the triaxle dump trucks.

No material was removed from the site on Friday, December 13 due to bad weather. The landfill is closed on Sundays.

Smoke Forecast for Wednesday, December 18,  2019:

Air quality monitoring data in the local area of the fire continues to show particulate concentrations in the "Good" range. If fire flare-ups do occur, a northerly wind will likely move smoke plumes towards the south throughout the day Wednesday. However, given the latest trends in fire activity and continued fire suppression efforts, smoke is not expected to be a problem beyond locations closest to the Able Contracting facility along Schinger Avenue.

Reminder: The Able Contracting Information Hotline has been established to provide the daily forecast and allow community members to leave messages if they have additional questions. The Smoke Forecast Hotline phone number is 803-898-4262 or 1-800‐204-1842.
