The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (Department) is publishing this Notice of General Public Interest pursuant to the requirements of 40 CFR 51.308, to provide interested persons the opportunity to request and attend a public hearing and comment on the Department’s submittal to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to revise the State Implementation Plan (SIP) for regional haze. If requested, the public hearing will be held on January 5, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. virtually via Microsoft Teams to address current guidance to help minimize the spread of COVID-19. However, pursuant to 40 CFR 51.102, if the Department does not receive a request for a public hearing by 5:00 p.m. on December 29, 2021, the Department will cancel the public hearing. If the Department cancels the public hearing, then the Department will notify the public at least one week prior to the scheduled hearing via the Department’s Public Notices webpage: http://www.scdhec.gov/PublicNotices/. The public is also invited to submit comments in writing before the public hearing. To be considered, comments must be received by 5:00 p.m. on January 5, 2022, the close of the comment period. Submit comments to Scott Bigleman, Air Regulation and Data Analysis Section, Bureau of Air Quality, 2600 Bull Street, Columbia, S.C. 29201. Interested persons may also contact Scott Bigleman via phone at (803) 898-0561 or email at biglemrs@dhec.sc.gov for more information or to view a copy of the state’s proposed plan.
