Where can I get the flu vaccine?  

DHEC and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that everyone 6 months and older get the flu vaccine.  You and your family can get the flu vaccine at many different locations, including health care provider offices, clinics, workplaces, pharmacies and DHEC health departments.    

South Carolina pharmacies:

  • No prescription is needed for anyone 12 years and older to get a flu vaccine, age may vary by pharmacy.
  • Cost of vaccine at the pharmacy depends on insurance coverage.  Most health insurance plans cover the flu vaccine with no or low copay.
  • Find a local pharmacy that provides vaccines

What is the cost?

Cost will not be a barrier to vaccines offered in DHEC clinics. Ask how we can help.

Children 6 months to 18 years can get flu shots at low or no cost, depending on eligibility.

Adults 19 years of age or older:

  • Low cost vaccine is available for adults who don’t have health insurance or have insurance that doesn't cover vaccines.
  • Adults with health insurance:
    • The cost of the flu shot depends on the type of vaccine given and your insurance. High-Dose flu shots are available for adults 65 years and older.
    • DHEC can bill certain Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans, SC Medicaid and Medicare Part B.
    • For many insurance plans, including the State Health Plan, DHEC is out of network. You will be responsible for the cost of the flu vaccine and administration of the shot.
