DHEC reopens Charleston County shellfish beds

Columbia, S.C.- The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) will reopen shellfish harvesting areas in Charleston County previously closed due to a sewer breach from the town of Hollywood, the agency announced today.

"The approved shellfish harvesting areas from Charleston Harbor south to the North Edisto River are once again suitable for harvesting," said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC's Shellfish Sanitation Section.
