Planning for the Future of South Carolina's Water Resources
Water is a shared resource that is vital to our state and we have a shared responsibility to plan for its future. South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is leading the effort to create an updated State Water Plan with the goal of ensuring sustainable water supplies and resources for current and future generations.
DHEC's Role
The State Water Planning Process Advisory Committee (PPAC) is a diverse stakeholder group working together to define the elements of the planning process. Its members represent agriculture, commerce, environmental groups, government agencies, recreation, energy companies, and public water suppliers.
Myra Reece, Director of Environmental Affairs for SC DHEC, represents the agency as a member of PPAC. As the state's public health and environmental agency DHEC is responsible for regulating and permitting activities relating to waters of the state.
DHEC Bureau of Water hydrogeologists & engineers also provide technical resources and assistance to these planning efforts.

Your Role
At this time, the PPAC is working together to initiate planning efforts. Stay informed on their progress and sign up to receive updates here.
As the planning process continues, River Basin Councils will be formed across the state. These councils will seek the ideas and opinions of citizens and stakeholders to develop local water plans. Collectively the work of the councils will be the basis for the updated State Water Plan.
