State Agency Recycling

According to the S.C. Solid Waste Policy and Management Act of 1991 (Act) state government agencies are required to recycle, buy recycled-content products and annually report their recycling activities and recycled-content purchases to DHEC.

Beyond being required, state agencies have a responsibility to lead by example and are held accountable for operating in an environmentally responsible manner. DHEC’s Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling (Office) offers assistance in setting up and improving recycling at state agencies at no cost through the Green Government Initiative.

Services provided through the Green Government Initiative include:

  • Site visits to assess waste reduction and recycling opportunities;
  • Phone/email consultations regarding research, recycling market updates and recycling/recycled product vendors; and
  • Newsletters and workshops, including the S.C. State Agency Recycling Professionals Certification.
