Camp Burnt Gin Programs
Camp Burnt Gin, a residential summer camp for children, teens and young adults who have physical disabilities and chronic illnesses, offers seven sessions throughout the summer.
The days at camp are filled with a variety of activities that can be adapted so that every camper can participate. The evening program varies each night and includes a talent show, dance, campfire, and award ceremony. Our summer camp program allows our campers the opportunity to be independent, try new things, learn new skills, and make new friends.
Check out our activities below to learn more about our program:
The Fine Arts Program gives campers the opportunity to expand their imagination and express themselves through music, drama, and dance. Activities may include musical games, rhythm band, skit writing, acting, and dressing up in costumes.
The Nature Program is designed to teach campers about the Earth, plants, and animals. Nature activities include gardening, identification of plants, bug and butterfly collecting, nature walks, and fun facts about animals.
The emphases within the Sports and Games Program are cooperative play and developing recreational skills. Planned activities may include kickball, volleyball, relay races, parachute games, and card and board games.
American Red Cross certified lifeguards supervise the swimming and boating programs. Counselors swim and play alongside the campers in the pool to help ensure their safety. Depending on the camper’s needs, the staff-to-camper ratio is 1:1 or 1:3. Time is spent learning basic swimming skills and playing in the pool.
Boating is often a new experience for our campers and a great opportunity to explore the lake. Canoes, kayaks and paddle boats are available for the campers' and counselors’ use. Counselors always accompany campers in the boats and life jackets are worn by everyone. All boating activities are supervised by lifeguards.
