COLUMBIA, S.C. — The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) will open select shellfish harvesting beds in Beaufort County, the agency announced today. "Water quality data indicate that bacteria levels are once again suitable for shellfish harvesting in the selected areas only," said Mike Pearson, Manager of DHEC's Shellfish Sanitation Section. "All other previously closed areas including the Wallace Creek Conditional Management Area will remain closed until water quality sampling indicates that bacteria levels are once again suitable of harvesting."
