South Carolina Food Security Council

The South Carolina Food Security Council (Council) was established by the South Carolina General Assembly in 2023. Under Proviso 34.70 of the General Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2023-2024, the Council shall:

  • Examine state agency programs addressing food insecurity in S.C. through monetary benefits or meal services covering infants through senior citizens.
  • Identify gaps in services, especially for the most vulnerable populations.
  • Make recommendations on improvements to existing services and additional programs.

A report of recommendations was submitted to the legislature on January 31, 2024. The Council is now dissolved.
