Champions of the Environment is an annual grant program that awards K-12th grade students and teachers up to $2,500 to carry out environmental action and awareness projects in their schools and communities.
The Champions of the Environment webinar took place on Thu., Oct. 29 from 4-5:30 PM. The Champions program collaborated with the Environmental Education Association of South Carolina (EEASC) to present this webinar geared toward K-12th grade educators. Expert speakers from Roper Mountain Science Center, Camp Discovery, Clemson Extension, Lake Conestee Nature Preserve, Project Learning Tree, and Take Action SC were featured. Participants gathered in a group Zoom meeting for the first part of the webinar, then were sent to one of four virtual breakout rooms focused on specific grade categories (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12). An expert speaker in each breakout room demonstrated how to adapt soil lessons normally done in a classroom setting to online instruction with students learning from home. The participants then returned to the group meeting for presentations on additional resources and wrap-up. Webinar attendees will receive toolkits in the mail. Toolkits include fun, educational items, as well as lesson plans and materials specific to the breakout room for which participants were registered. Drawings for door prizes were also made throughout the webinar. Toolkits and door prizes will be sent only to those who attended the entire webinar. See below for links to webinar recordings:
